& the Heart of Play

Play for Engagement

Coming in July

For over thirty years I have led workshops which focus on joy, cooperation, and connection. More and more I have come to the simple realization that everyone wants to feel a sense of belonging. Many of today’s challenges in education, in organizations, in society, and in our individual lives can boil down to people feeling disconnected and feeling like they don’t belong. One of the best remedies for this growing epidemic of alienation is Nurtured Heart Play.

My journey of workshop facilitation began with a love of alternative recreation, human potentials, as well as traditional sports, eventually becoming a seasoned Play Specialist. Over the years I have deepened this work by drawing from the fields of positive psychology, mindfulness, leadership development, and holistic health, furthering my belief that when we feel connected in this way, our lives have more meaning, and we thrive. This is the essence, the core, the heart of play. Whether it is for educational environments where we focus on skills that help educators create inclusive, energizing, and meaningful play experiences that tie into social-emotional learning, character-building, or mindfulness-based curricula, or whether it is for organizations wanting to build effective teams, enhance communication, empower creativity, and bolster overall company wellness, practicing skilled playfulness gets to the heart of the matter.

I have recently written a book called Nurtured Heart Play, in collaboration with Howard Glasser, the founder of the Nurtured Heart Approach. This is an exciting culmination of my life's work, bringing all my years of experience in play facilitation, social-emotional learning and mindfulness, into a fine-tuned process, designed to help any educator, parent, or guardian, deepen their connection with the children in their care. This is play in the service of engagement and cultivating greatness.

Nurtured Heart Play

Play is the way that children experience, explore and engage with the world around them. It is the primary process by which their mind brain system grows and flourishes. The Nurtured Heart Approach is a unique process that recognizes the greatness in everyone and is designed to build the the Inner Wealth(R) in children.

The Nurtured Heart Approach is being used successfully in schools, clinics, by parents and counselors worldwide. In his book Nurtured Heart Play, Howard Moody offers simple and effective ways within play to embody, actualize and learn this powerful modality and utilize it within play. Nurtured Heart Play is a new way to deepen the social emotional learning that takes place during play and will support any adult who works closely with children.

"I consider Howard to be an artist who imparts an enduring message of cooperation and self esteem to each child. He works with kids in a language and medium the kids love and therefore makes a lasting impression on the children." Elizabeth Lesser, Bestselling Author, Co-founder Omega Institute

"Howard’s style of play has left an indelible mark on the Center's residents and staff. Our group finished the day with a genuine desire to incorporate more play into the rhythm of our community life. We highly recommend his work to any group that desires to strengthen its cohesiveness or deepen its sense of community." Regan McCarthy Executive Director, Phonecia Pathwork Center

"In all my years I have never seen anything as challenging, creative and playful as what Howard and his staff have to offer. It is truly an ongoing work of the arts!" Arlene Albright Associate Director of Admissions, Solebury School

"I’d like to thank you for the excellent job you did facilitating our Team Build. It was a very successful event. Newcomers to the team felt welcome. We all left knowing each other better, working with each other more comfortably, renewed from a day of creative play. Even though some of our participants were apprehensive about the day, it took you only a few minutes to get everyone laughing and moving about, engaged in the process, ready for more play – and this is with a group of accountants. Thank you for bringing your skill as a group leader and your seemingly infinite array of activities. I hope I have the opportunity again to enjoy a day of play with you." Robert Hendrickson, Whole Foods Market

"As Howard promised there was great laughter, almost non-stop. We also had the opportunity to see another side of our co-workers. We highly recommend Howard Moody's presentation." Christine L. Swingle Executive Assistant, Chrysalis Center, Inc.
